BY THE NUMBERS: NORWAY
OVERVIEW: NORWAY
Norway is a longstanding shareholder and partner of the World Bank Group. It is represented at the Board by an Executive Director shared with the other Nordic and Baltic countries.
Norway became a member of the World Bank in 1945 and has since worked with the World Bank and other member governments to finance projects, design policies, and deliver programs aimed at eradicating poverty and promoting sustainable development. Today, it is a member of all five institutions of the World Bank Group.
Norway’s engagement with the World Bank Group includes co-financing, trust funds, and joint analytical work in sectors and regions of mutual interest. Its development contributions reflect a strong commitment to global cooperation and inclusive growth on a livable planet.
The World Bank’s Nordic Baltic Desk, based in the Paris Office, promotes collaboration between Norway and the World Bank Group. It supports outreach activities in partnership with Norwegian stakeholders, including conferences, seminars, and other events on development-related topics. The desk also serves as an entry point for Norwegian groups seeking to engage with World Bank staff or access the Bank’s published resources, and it responds to media queries.
