Iceland
BY THE NUMBERS: ICELAND
OVERVIEW: ICELAND
Iceland is a longstanding shareholder and partner of the World Bank Group. It is represented at the Board by an Executive Directorshared with the other Nordic and Baltic countries.
Iceland became a member of the World Bank in 1945 and has since worked with the World Bank and other member governments to finance projects, design policies, and deliver programs to eradicate poverty in the developing world.
The Nordic Baltic Desk at the World Bank’s Paris Office promotes collaboration between Iceland and the World Bank Group. It supports outreach activities in partnership with Icelandic stakeholders, including conferences, seminars, and other events on development-related topics. The desk also serves as an entry point for Icelandic groups seeking to engage with World Bank staff or access the World Bank Group’s published resources, and it responds to media queries.
Iceland’s commitment to international development is reflected in its active participation across all five institutions of the WBG.
