कई वर्षों तक कोसी नदी से आने वाली बाढ़ से बिहार के कई ज़िले तबाह हो जाते थे। विश्व बैंक समर्थित बिहार कोसी बेसिन विकास परियोजना के साथ, राज्य को बार-बार तबाह करने वाली बाढ़ से निपटने में मदद मिली है।
इस परियोजना से तटबंधों की रक्षा करने में मदद मिली है। परियोजना के तहत स्थापित नया बाढ़ प्रबंधन सुधार सहायता केंद्र, डेटा इकट्ठा करने के लिए नवीन तकनीक का उपयोग कर रहा है, और बाढ़ की चेतावनी का पूर्वानुमान लगाने के लिए सिमुलेशन का उपयोग करता है। इससे राज्य को बेहतर ढंग से तैयार होने और अपनी कृषि, बुनियादी ढांचे, शिक्षा और स्वास्थ्य देखभाल को बेहतर ढंग से सञ्चालन करने में मदद मिल रही है। यह परियोजना बाढ़ से प्रभावित दुसरे क्षेत्रों और समान चुनौतियों का सामना करने वाले क्षेत्रों के लिए एक समग्र मॉडल प्रदान करती है।
