How important is a Statement of Interest?

You can find current vacancies on the WBG Careers site under “Current Openings.” These include positions in Washington, D.C. and in country/regional offices. All applications must be submitted online through the system. The WBG does not accept applications sent by email or mail.

The WBG is a large, complex institution. A good starting point is to determine whether your expertise aligns more with Operations (technical, country-facing, sector work) or corporate functions (HR, IT, communications, finance, etc.).
How do I create a profile/account on the career website?
Go to the WBG Careers page → Current Opportunities → Sign In / Create Profile.

How can I search for jobs and set job alerts?
Use keywords or filters on the Careers site. If you do not find a suitable position, set up a job alert to receive email notifications when matching roles are posted.
How can I check the status of my application?
Log in to the vendor’s system using the same credentials you used when submitting your documents.
Will I get updates on my application?
You will receive an acknowledgment upon submission. At longlist you should be informed that you are under review and/or longlisted. shortlisted candidates receive further communication about interviews from a recruiter or hiring team members. Recruitment can take several months, and status updates will appear in your application portal once the process is complete.
Can I edit my application after submission?
After submission, you may only update contact information. If withdrawn, you cannot reapply to the same requisition.
What should I do if I experience technical issues during application?
Retry later. Issues may be caused by internet connection, firewall, or file size. If problems persist, email

How long does the hiring process take?

Why was I not shortlisted or why haven't I heard back?
Our recruitment process is highly competitive, and individual feedback is not provided. If you do not receive any communication within 2–3 months, it usually indicates that the recruitment process has advanced without your application being shortlisted.

How are job grades structured at the WBG?
The WBG uses 10 grade levels across three streams:

- Professional & Technical (GE–GJ): usually requires a master’s degree or a PhD, with work experience. (e.g., Economists, Specialists, Investment Officers)
- Managerial (GH–GJ): Managers, Directors, Vice Presidents

What is the difference between international and local appointments?
- International: USD salary. Global expertise and mobility are essential.
- Local: Salary in local currency.

What is the Young Professionals Program (YPP)? Am I eligible?
The YPP is a competitive leadership pipeline program for young professionals passionate about international development. Eligibility includes:

- Relevant professional experience
Candidates are selected for academic excellence, professional experience, and leadership potential.
What consulting or temporary opportunities exist?
- Extended Term Temporary (ETT): equivalent of GA–GD, 90 day minimum, renewable, 3-year cumulative lifetime cap.
- Extended Term Consultant (ETC): equivalent of GE+ level, 90 day minimum, renewable, 3-year cumulative lifetime cap.

Do I need to be a citizen of a member country?
What visa or work authorization is required?
- U.S. roles: Non-U.S. citizens need either permanent residency or a G4 visa (sponsored by the WBG).
- Country offices: You must meet the local country’s requirements for international organizations. Please note that for GA-GD and ETT appointments, preference will be given to new hires who are: 1) nationals of the duty station, 2) legal residents, 3) or otherwise have legal presence in the duty station independent of any employer (excluding World Bank Group sponsorship), and who are authorized to work in the duty station.
Is there an age limit for Young Professionals Program (YPP) or other positions?
No. The only requirement is meeting the necessary years of professional experience (for YPP and specific jobs).

Can I work at the WBG if my relatives are working?
A staff member is required to inform Human Resources if that staff learns that a close relative is working at or applying for a position with the World Bank Group. This applies to close relatives who perform services for the WBG under a WBG appointment or as an employee of a firm, and to the close relatives of Executive Directors, Alternate Executive Directors, and Senior Advisors to the Executive Director.
Category of Relatives who are not eligible for employment:
