Livable Planet Observatory

This will be a core mission of the Livable Planet Open Data Initiative activity as part of the Digital Global Challenge Program (GCP). It will include cataloging a wide range of already accessible data services and facilitating new interoperable data services in partnership with other organizations. The initial focus will be on a few critical parameters (e.g., river flows, air and water quality, crop yields, forest carbon, soil moisture, etc.).  These are expected to improve the utility of global data and analytic frameworks as well as support training of data for impactful AI-fueled services.

This initiative will:

• consolidate relevant information into modern, interactive data and knowledge explorers, dashboards, and interactive eBooks/Storymaps.
• organize a range of internal and external knowledge sharing, data hackathon, and other outreach activities.
• facilitate the use of AI-fueled interfaces to access relevant development-related data and visualizations in any language; and
• support competitions (such as hackathons) to showcase community ideas for modern data, analytics, and visualization leveraging open services.

This will focus on supporting World Bank Group operational teams and their clients to improve awareness and capacity on modern cloud data/analytics and related GeoAI for World Bank Group facilitated knowledge, convening, and financing related activities.

This initiative will work across the World Bank Group, as well as with external partners to facilitate modern data, analytics, and knowledge tools in a physical environment for users and partners.

This will be built on the experience of the current Geolab and ongoing work to scale this up within the Bank. In the “hub” spaces created as part of the initiative, tech-savvy Bank teams and clients can interact with relevant spatial and temporal data on touchscreens, touch-tables, and mixed reality equipment to explore the amazing world of open data and analytics.
