This updated e-course offers an introduction to the Global Environment Facility (GEF), a unique international partnership focused on safeguarding the global environment. It is a joint production of the GEF Secretariat’s Knowledge & Learning Team and the Open Learning Campus (OLC) of the World Bank Group, and is hosted by the OLC. Through this course, you will gain a solid understanding of the GEF’s mission, history, and institutional structure. The course highlights the organizing principles and priority areas under the 8th GEF replenishment period (GEF-8), building on lessons from GEF-7. It also covers key cross-cutting issues, the basics of GEF funding and operational policies, and the results framework guiding GEF-8 programming. In addition, you will gain an understanding of GEF’s Integrated Programs, how they are designed to address complex environmental challenges through systems thinking, cross-sectoral collaboration, and transformative approaches.
