On the margin of the 2025 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group (WBG), Mr. Harold Tavares, Executive Director for Africa Group II, met with leaders of regional economic and monetary institutions, including Mr. Baltasar Engonga Edjo'o, President of the Commission of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), and Mr. Yvon Sana Bangui, Governor of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC).
The discussions focused on major priorities such as the conservation of Congo Basin forests, food security in Central and West Africa, and key health sector initiatives. Cross-cutting issues were also addressed, including education, institutional transformation, and data systems improvement.
Mr. Tavares emphasized the importance of strategic cooperation to maximize impact and ensure sustainable outcomes. All parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to accelerating regional integration, enhancing operational efficiency, and promoting knowledge sharing.
A report will soon be submitted to the Governors of Africa Group II outlining key strategic directions, including support for forest restoration and capacity building. The EDS13 Office reaffirms its commitment to supporting member countries toward inclusive development that benefits local populations.
