Finland is a longstanding shareholder and partner of the World Bank Group. It is represented by an Executive Directorshared with other Nordic and Baltic countries.
Finland became a member of the World Bank in 1948 and was among the first countries to receive a loan to support post-war reconstruction. Today, it is a member of all five institutions of the World Bank Groupand works with other member governments to finance projects, shape policies, and deliver programs aimed at ending poverty and promoting sustainable development.
Finland contributes to the World Bank’s development efforts through co-financing, trust funds, and joint analytical work in regions and sectors of shared interest. It also supports outreach and knowledge-sharing activities through the Nordic Baltic Desk at the World Bank’s Paris Office, which engages Finnish stakeholders including government, civil society, academia, and the private sector.
The Paris Office serves as a key platform for collaboration between Finland and the World Bank Group. It helps promote understanding of the WBG’s mission and facilitates dialogue on global development priorities through conferences, seminars, and media engagement.
Finland’s commitment to international development is reflected in its active engagement with the World Bank Group’s mission to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet.
