Bernice van Bronkhorst visited Japan after assuming the role of the Global Director of Urban, Disaster Risk Management, Resilience, and Land Global Practice. Bernice met with several Japanese ministries and partner agencies to strengthen the outreach and impact of the activities of Tokyo Development Learning Center, and the Tokyo Disaster Risk Management Hub. Bernice met with Mr. Shoichi Kurioka, Director General of the Bureau of Environment of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, to learn about the decarbonization initiatives of Tokyo. She also visited and met with Takeharu Yamanaka, Mayor of Yokohama City, to explore new collaborative opportunities on climate change action. Lastly, she made a courtesy visit to the Tokyo Office of Hiroshima City, which has recently joined TDLC’s City Partnership Program in March 2023.
