This event will delve into innovative approaches to capacity development in ocean governance, implemented through international legal instruments, partnerships with international organizations, and training programs at the international, regional, and national levels. It will examine how capacity building and supporting the ratification and implementation of key international instruments can address governance gaps, enhance the rule of law, promote inclusivity, and ensure the sustainable use of global public goods. For example, collaborations with academic institutions can enhance the impact of research and teaching initiatives, advancing partnerships for the Sustainable Development Goals.

The discussion will enhance understanding of how capacity building and technical assistance can unite stakeholders, foster dialogue, and strengthen the rule of law. The event will share lessons learned, highlight the key role of international partnerships and collaborations, and provide guidance on improving the structure and content of future efforts. It is organized as a side event during the 2025 UN Ocean Conference and will take place at the Orca Room at The Whale / La Baleine venue.

Networking Opportunity: In-person attendees are welcome to attend an on-site reception after the event, for an opportunity to connect with peers, speakers, and experts.
