The World Bank’s new mission is to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet. The "Poverty, Prosperity, and Planet. Pathways Out of the Polycrisis" report evaluates progress towards these goals. It offers the first global assessment of poverty and shared prosperity post-pandemic, revealing that current economic growth patterns are insufficient.

Approximately 700 million people live in extreme poverty on less than $2.15 a day, and nearly half of the world lives on less than $6.85 daily, a figure unchanged since 1990. High inequality, particularly in Africa and Latin America, hinders poverty reduction. Additionally, climate change threatens one in five people with extreme weather events in their lifetime.

A presentation in Vienna, organized by the World Bank and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance, will discuss the report's findings and their implications for global development.

The event will be held in English.
