Global Payments Week 2023

The “Global Payments Week” (GPW) is a biennial event that bring together payment systems experts from central banks, co-organized by the World Bank and the Committee on Payments and Market

Infrastructures (CPMI) of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), in partnership with international and regional bodies such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Arab Monetary Fund, and the Center for Latin American Monetary Studies (CEMLA).

The GPW is a forum to discuss the most important issues and trends in the field of payments and securities settlement, to share experience across countries and across regions and to create a network of payments practitioners among central banks. The last physical iteration of this biennial high-level meeting of payment professionals and central bank colleagues from all continents was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2018, with a virtual GPW in 2020.

This edition of the GPW is hosted by the Bank Al Maghrib from 15 May 2023 until 19 May 2023.  The morning of 19 May will be reserved for the meetings of the regional payment initiatives.

The GPW 2023 topics include:

  • Future Proofing the National Payment Systems
  • Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)
  • Expanding Usage of Digital Payments:  Learning from the Field and Recent Research
  • Crypto-Assets and Open Banking
  • The Changing Contours of National Payments System Oversight

The participation of this event is by invitation only and open only to Central banks, other payment system regulators and overseers, and multilateral organizations. A limited number of World Bank staff would also participate.
