Social Protection for the Informal Economy: Operational Lessons for Developing Countries in Africa and Beyond provides an overview of social protection instruments for different groups in the diverse informal economy and proposes innovative social insurance instruments to encourage the missed middle of social protection to save to build resilience to future shocks. The report has a focus on providing operational guidance to policymakers, practitioners, and task teams who would like to implement and evaluate the proposed scheme for the informal economy. It includes guidance on how these schemes can be integrated into the overall social protection systems including at the operational level to provide a continuum of social protection. It also includes the first-ever compilation of country experiences in this emerging area of work.
