Women in Uttarakhand face barriers to progress. The state’s child sex ratio is among the lowest in the country and, what’s worse, is declining. Maternal mortality is high, and women have dropped out of the labor force in large numbers. Read Uttarakhand – Gender brief.

Progress across social groups has been uneven in Uttarakhand. The Scheduled Tribes and the Scheduled Castes stand out for their limited access to basic services and salaried jobs. Read Uttarakhand - Social Inclusion brief.

Health and education outcomes have been improving, but progress is slow. Malnutrition is high for most income groups and learning outcomes are declining. Read Uttarakhand - Health and Education more.
