The World Bank Group (WBG); in collaboration with researchers from Georgetown University; intends to conduct a Randomized Control Trial (RCT) study of the impact of AI-assisted teaching.   This study investigates whether artificial intelligence (AI) can improve learning outcomes among school children in South Asia. Foundational literacy and numeracy remain critical challenges in the region. In addition; there are significant learning losses experienced by students during breaks between school semesters and academic years. In response to this challenge; the study explores whether a structured winter school program can mitigate these learning losses; and whether incorporating AI-based tools into teaching practices can enhance its effectiveness. The study will examine the impact of an intervention involving a winter school program centered on the Targeted Instruction Program (TIP) curriculum developed in partnership with the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP). The TIP curriculum focuses on foundational competencies in Urdu; mathematics; and English. The winter school program will serve students in grades 3 through 6 in Quetta; Balochistan; Pakistan during the extended winter break period in 2025. In addition to the core academic instruction; the intervention includes teacher training and the integration of AI-assisted lesson planning; grading; and educational material support. The study will employ a randomized controlled trial (RCT); in which study sample students will be randomly assigned into three study arms1.       Control: a control group receiving no intervention.2.       T1: a treatment group attending the winter school without AI.3.       T2: a treatment group attending the winter school with AI-supported instruction. Each study arm will consist of approximately 3;000 students; totaling 9;000 study sample students. These students will be primarily recruited from (approximately) 100 of the largest schools in Quetta; with an expected average of 90-100 students recruited from each of these “home” schools. The intervention will be designed and delivered by the government in collaboration with the research team. The objective of this assignment is to collect student level data to measure the impact of the intervention.  The data will be collected in two rounds of student assessment surveys conducted in the students’ home schools: a baseline round just before winter school commences in December 2025; and an endline following its conclusion. The assignment also includes a short survey of schoolteachers delivering the winter school; and digitization of other administrative and student background being collected by the research team.   The scope of the work involves the following; among others: *         Translating the draft student assessment instrument provided by the WB into the local language.  *         Field testing and finalizing the assessment instrument through a pilot.  *         Conducting two rounds of student assessment surveys of approximately 9000 students. The survey locations will be the students’ home schools in Quetta (approximately 100). *         Translating draft schoolteacher questionnaire provided by WB into the local language; field testing and implementing it among approximately 150 schoolteachers in Quetta. *         Digitize and clean student background data collected by the research team through a short paper form. *         Digitize and clean administrative data on 9000 study students. *         Data entry; cleaning and timely delivery of data in either STATA or SPSS format.
