Indermit Gill is the Director for Development Policy at the Development Economics and Chief Economist (DEC) unit of the World Bank.
Prior to taking this position, Mr. Gill was the Chief Economist of the Europe and Central Asia Region of the World Bank, and before that he was the Director of the World Development Report 2009: Reshaping Economic Geography.
Mr. Gill joined the World Bank in 1993 and has held various positions since then, including Sector Manager in the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Unit of the East Asia and Pacific Regional Office, where he was also Economic Advisor to the Chief Economist. Prior to this, he was the Economic Advisor to the Vice President of the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Unit.
From 1997-99, Mr. Gill worked as a Senior Country Economist in the Brazil Country Management Unit. Upon his return to Washington in 2000, he served for two years as Lead Economist of Human Development in the Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Office.
Mr. Gill’s research has been published in several books and academic journals. He has an M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago.
