Access to Information
Overview
The World Bank has updated its approach to disclosure over the years in response to changes in its work, growing expectations from stakeholders, and its ongoing commitment to greater transparency about its operations. Since 2010, the World Bank Access to Information (ATI) Policy has opened access to any information in its possession, unless it falls under a specific list of exceptions. This means people can see details about project plans, financial reports, and official Board decisions, helping make the Bank’s global development work more transparent and accountable.
The policy also sets out a clear process for making information publicly available and provides a right to appeal if a request for information is denied.
On this site you can find tips on how to locate information that is already public and how to request information you cannot find. By sharing its data and research openly, the World Bank helps students, researchers, and community leaders better understand and engage in efforts to reduce poverty.
Requests
Much of the World Bank Group’s information is already available online. If you cannot find what you need, you can request information by submitting an Access to Information request. To do this, you will create/log into a user account to communicate with the World Bank and track the status of your request.
