Brazil works to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on poverty, education and skills

Before the pandemic, 52% of Brazilians were living in poverty or at risk of falling into it. With the COVID-19 pandemic, many people lost their jobs and are now living in conditions of vulnerability. To tackle this issue, the World Bank is going to support the Brazilian government with a new project that will finance the expansion of the Bolsa Familia cash transfer program. The expansion of the Bolsa Familia should assist around 2.9 million Brazilians for at least 14 months. Out of this, 990,000 are children and young adults who need to attend classes and receive health services so that their families can get the transfers.
