Portugal collaborates with all five organizations of the World Bank Group and holds 0.34% of voting power in the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The country is currently represented by Executive Director EDS21, who also represents Albania, Greece, Malta, Italy, San Marino, and Timor-Leste.

Portugal has a long history of donating to the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s fund for the poorest countries. As of June 2023, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) has a long-term investment portfolio with Portuguese sponsors totaling 218 million USD.

Presently, Portugal is represented by the World Bank’s Rome Office, which serves the External and Corporate Relations (ECR) functions across Southern Europe. This office also acts as a Knowledge Hub for the Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan Africa, supporting the World Bank Group’s strategic vision to become a Knowledge Bank.
