OVERVIEW: GREECE
Greece is a long-standing shareholder and partner for the organizations of the World Bank Group. It holds 0.18% of voting power in IBRD, and it is currently represented by Executive Director EDS21 (also representing Albania, Italy, Malta, Portugal, San Marino, and Timor-Leste).
Greece has been a donor to IDA, the World Bank’s fund for the poorest, since 1981. As of June 2023, IFC’s long-term investment portfolio with Greek sponsors amounted to over $12 million.
Greece is currently represented by the World Bank’s Rome office, which fulfills the External and Corporate Relations functions across Southern Europe and serves as a Knowledge Hub for the Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan Africa, in support of the World Bank Group’s strategic vision to become a Knowledge Bank.
