Agriculture

The Rural Economic Transformation Project continues to support increased productivity and market access for smallholder farmers and agri-enterprises across selected value chains in Liberia. The project has reached 66,097 direct beneficiaries (target: 96,000), with 50% being women.

Energy

The National Energy Compact targets raising electricity access from 34% to 75% by 2030, expanding renewable energy to 75% and transforming Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) into a financially viable utility. Since January 2025, 38,000 households—nearly 40% of the yearly goal—have been connected, supported by the World Bank–financed projects that also helped cut commercial losses from 47.7% in 2021 to 27.5% in 2024. Major World Bank supported investments include a 20MW solar plant and 40MW hydropower expansion at Mt. Coffee, paving the way for Saint Paul 2 hydropower project.

Social Protection

The Recovery of Economic Activity for Liberian Informal Sector Employment (REALISE) Project benefitted approximately 53,000 households or 265,000 individuals across 14 of Liberia’s 15 counties. It aims to increase income-earning opportunities for vulnerable informal sector workers, support poor and food-insecure households, and improve the efficiency of social protection programs.

Health and Nutrition

There are currently two IDA-financed operations in the health sector. The projects focus on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health and nutrition (RMNCAH-N) and health security respectively.

Through the new Health Security Program, the World Bank is maintaining its legacy of enhancing health sector performance – including through pandemic preparedness as well as disease surveillance and response.
