Australia is an important shareholder and partner for the World Bank Group. It holds 1.39% of voting power in IBRD, where it is represented by an Executive Director appointed by the government. Australia has been a donor to the International Development Agency (IDA), the World Bank’s fund for the poorest countries, since the IDA’s founding. It works closely with the World Bank Group on issues relevant to the Pacific Islands as well as on infrastructure and gender issues.

At IFC, Australia is the seventh-leading contributor to Upstream and Advisory operations, and is the largest funder in the Asia Pacific. Australia’s relationship with MIGA focuses on the Indo-Pacific, including renewing investments in Southeast Asia. Australia also supports Pacific Island nations (fragile and conflict-affected countries and IDA countries) as they navigate climate change, natural disasters, and pressing human development and sustainable infrastructure needs.
