AIM2030 is a partnership led by the World Bank Group, the African Union Commission, governments, and partners to expand access to essential medicines and health products—and build sustainable regional manufacturing capacity across Africa.
More than half of Africa’s population still lacks access to essential medicines and is overwhelmingly dependent on imports. This reliance leaves health systems vulnerable to global supply disruptions, price shocks, and export restrictions—risks that were brought into sharp focus during the COVID‑19 pandemic. By strengthening local production and distribution, countries can improve availability and quality of care, protect health security, and create skilled jobs while attracting private investment.
What AIM2030 will achieve
The goals of AIM2030 in Africa are to:
- Strengthen health resilience by building sustainable manufacturing and distribution of medical products at regional and local levels.
- Achieve universal health coverage by expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare and essential medical products.
- Create jobs and develop medical industries through private sector engagement and workforce upskilling.
