For more than two decades, the Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI) has been a leading global effort to measure perceptions of governance. To support the WGI’s commitment to methodological rigor and continuous improvement, an Advisory Committee has been convened to review and, where appropriate, recommend refinements to key aspects of the methodology.
The Committee’s objectives are to assess and provide guidance on three specific areas:
(1) The selection of primary data sources
(2) The choice of governance dimensions
(3) The statistical method used to aggregate primary data into country-year indicators
The Committee serves in a technical advisory capacity, providing independent advice and recommendations on the three areas outlined above. It does not make decisions on specific implementation choices. Final decisions on any changes to the WGI methodology rest with World Bank management.
Please find the recommendations from the WGI Advisory Committee (June 2025).
