Program for Asia Resilience to Climate Change

The Program for Asia Resilience to Climate Change (PARCC) is a trust fund, launched in 2018 and supported by the United Kingdom, to develop hydromet services and disaster early-warning systems for countries subject to extreme weather. Improved weather information can save lives, improve livelihoods, and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities. The trust fund is part of the UK's broader program, Asia Regional Resilience to a Changing Climate Program, and is managed by the World Bank.

PARCC is also linked to other World Bank investments in the South Asia Adaptation and Resilience Program.

South Asia Water Initiative

The South Asia Water Initiative (SAWI) seeks to improve the shared management of the Indus, Ganges, and Brahmaputra rivers that provide water for households, crops, and transportation. SAWI, launched in 2013, is a trust fund supported by the United Kingdom, Australia, and Norway, and administered by the World Bank.

The SAWI program aims to strengthen awareness about transboundary water issues, enhance technical and policy capacity across the region, promote dialogue to build trust and confidence, and inform other World Bank investments.

Program for Asia Connectivity and Trade

South Asia Regional Trade Facilitation Program

The World Bank administers the South Asia Region Trade Facilitation Program, which is part of the Partnership for South Asia umbrella trust fund supported by Australia. The program began in 2011 and emphasizes sustainable development and poverty reduction through regional economic integration and improved infrastructure for energy and transport.

South Asia Food and Nutrition Security Initiative

The South Asia Food and Nutrition Security Initiative (SAFANSI) addressed the issue of stubbornly high rates of malnutrition in the region despite high economic growth. SAFANSI, a trust fund administered by the World Bank, is supported by the United Kingdom, the European Commission, and Australia.

SAFANSI activities sought to help the poor and vulnerable, especially pregnant women and young children. The program's analytical work informed a total of 11 national government policies in South Asia, including plans developed by Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Other SAFANSI work ranged from testing better ways to deliver nutrition services in remote villages to creating datasets about how households purchased and consumed food. The trust fund, created in 2010, is scheduled to close its work in September 2019.
