Building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions that deliver citizen-centric services, facilitate private-sector growth, and build trust in government is paramount for promoting shared prosperity in a livable planet.

The world needs sound institutions and stable and responsive governance systems that can navigate and address the complex current challenges. By ensuring fair and transparent practices, inclusive policies, and citizen-focused services, governments can foster economic growth that benefits all segments of society.

The Public Administration & Services Global Unit in the World Bank’s Governance Department includes five programs advancing effective, accountable, transparent, and inclusive institutions. Each program works across knowledge and innovation, data and analytics, operational work, and convening and partnership, with support from the Governance and Institutions Umbrella Program.

The AC4D Global Program aims to build the capacity of countries to fight corruption, while also helping address the enablers of illicit financial flows outside countries.

The Governance & Institutions Umbrella Program
Our global programs receive financial support from the G&I Umbrella Program trust fund. The G&I focuses on supporting World Bank client countries in improving public sector performance and strengthening institutional reform, leveraging the power of digital and technology solutions in the public sector, and enhancing transparency and accountability. Besides the global programs' activities, it also provides support directly to regional and country activities. The Umbrella Program receives generous support from its development partners.
