Corruption thrives where justice systems are weak. Courts, prosecutors, and accountability institutions stand on the frontline of anticorruption enforcement — yet the communities working to strengthen them have too often operated in silos. The Strengthening Accountability Institutions Working Group aims to bring these worlds together.
Jointly convened by the Global Program on Justice and Rule of Law and the Global Program on Anticorruption for Development (AC4D), co-chaired by Accountability Lab and RIJA, this Working Group creates a novel community of practice at the intersection of justice and anticorruption. The Secretariat is provided by the World Bank's Public Administration global unit.
The Working Group is designed to be a cross-sectoral space, welcoming practitioners, researchers, and advocates whose work touches on accountability, integrity, and the rule of law.
Through regular peer exchange, thematic discussions, and collaborative analytical work, members explore how accountability institutions can better support anticorruption efforts, and how fighting corruption within those institutions strengthens the rule of law. Key themes include judicial integrity, whistleblower protection, the digitalization of justice, judicial independence, and the role of civil society in oversight.
The Working Group convenes virtually every three to four months, with a member-driven agenda and a commitment to regional diversity.
