Literacy

Literacy

Literacy is the ability to read and write with comprehension. In its broadest definition, it goes beyond the simple recognition of letters: it implies that a person can read and understand a simple text, communicate in writing, and access information autonomously.

Latin America and the Caribbean face a serious educational crisis. Before the pandemic, 52% of 10-year-old children in the region lived in Learning Poverty, and implies that they could not read and understand a simple text, today that figure may have reached 79%.

This reality led the World Bank to establish a global operational target: to reduce the learning poverty rate by half before 2030.
