Also known as instant or real-time payments, fast payments are characterized by the instant transmission of the payment message and by the immediate availability of funds to the beneficiary on a 24/7/365 basis. As fast payments expand in reach, they also expand in the trust and identity infrastructure required to make them safe and inclusive. To meet those demands, payment operators increasingly turn to digital identity solutions — such as verifiable credentials and consent-driven data sharing — to enable secure onboarding, fraud prevention, and seamless transaction authorization across diverse user populations.

In this webinar, Peter Moeller Jensen (Senior Payments Consultant, World Bank) and Colin Colter (Payments Consultant, World Bank) discuss the major elements and considerations of integrating digital identity with fast payment systems through the Payments Identity Credential (PIC) and the Trusted Access and Credentialing Hub (TACH) overlay service, and shares considerations for how countries can navigate the legal, regulatory, and governance challenges of building this next generation of digital infrastructure.
