From irrigated cotton fields to digitally monitored canals, southern Kazakhstan is transforming how water is managed and delivered. With World Bank support, the Second Irrigation and Drainage Improvement Project modernized over 800 kilometers of irrigation canals, rehabilitated 1,400 kilometers of drainage infrastructure, and trained more than 10,000 people in water management and agronomy — helping farmers increase yields, create jobs, and build more resilient rural communities.
