Women Entrepreneurs Gain Skills and Build Opportunity in South Sudan

The video features Rose Juru Chaplain in Juba, illustrating how the World Bank-supported South Sudan Women's Social and Economic Empowerment Project (SSWSEEP) - delivers business expansion grants combined with financial training to women owned businesses. By pairing direct support with practical skills, the project helps women strengthen livelihoods, build resilience, and establish lasting economic foundations.

Rose’s daily focus is simple but urgent: providing a better future for her children. Before receiving support, survival was uncertain, with many families facing days without enough food or stable income. Through the  South Sudan Women’s Social and Economic Empowerment Project (SSWSEEP), women owned businesses  are receiving business expansion grants  alongside capacity building and financial training to evolve and to become more resilient. Rose used the opportunity to invest in her future. Her story illustrates how combining financial support with practical skills can help women create lasting change and stronger economic foundations for the future.

Support to Rose is provided through Women’s Entrepreneurial Opportunity Facility (WEOF), implemented by the Ministry of Gender and Child and Social Welfare, together with a key implementing partner, UNWOMEN. WEOF is delivered through IRC and Open Capital Advisors.
