Women Entrepreneurs Are Powering Jobs in South Sudan

In South Sudan, women entrepreneurs are turning opportunity into lasting impact, supported by the South Sudan Women’s Social and Economic Empowerment Project. Annette Bongaret Lado, founder of a growing travel company, transformed a modest beginning into a thriving business after receiving a grant backed by the World Bank and the Ministry of Gender. With this support, her company is expanding, creating jobs, and helping employees meet essential needs—from food security to access to healthcare for their families. Her journey reflects a broader shift: when women gain access to finance and recognition, they build businesses and also strengthen livelihoods and inspire others. By investing in women’s economic empowerment, the project is helping to unlock South Sudan’s potential.
