Sustainable Forest Management: South-South exchange

Sustainable forest management brings great benefits. Often, countries face similar challenges in forest management, which is why it is necessary for them to exchange experiences, best practices, and advances.

Costa Rica hosted a South-South exchange of experiences that brought together delegations from Ghana, Chile, and Guatemala. The meeting, which took place in October, created a unique space for learning, strengthening alliances, and promoting innovative solutions. The event was supported by the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) of the World Bank, and its objective was to ensure that conservation produces local benefits and the creation of more and better sustainable jobs.

During the event, the countries shared their experiences in the following areas:

  • Ghana: agroforestry and conservation
  • Chile: fire management
  • Guatemala: social safeguards, indigenous inclusion, and community participation
  • Costa Rica: its innovative Payment for Environmental Services (PES) program
