End of the Year 2023 Ukraine

Arup Banerji, World Bank Regional Country Director for Eastern Europe, and Gevorg Sargsyan, World Bank Country Manager for Ukraine, reflect on the World Bank mission in Ukraine during 2023 and their hopes for 2024.

Since Russia’s invasion, World Bank-mobilized support has enabled the Government of Ukraine to provide essential services reaching more than 15 million people.

To date, the World Bank Group has facilitated over $39 billion in emergency financing to support Ukraine. Over 90% of this financing was provided by development partners including the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Indonesia, Lithuania, Latvia, Belgium, and the Republic of Korea.
