Closing Gender Gaps in Georgia – Ana Khutsishvili, Guesthouse Owner

The COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated gender inequality in Georgia. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, women have been more likely than men to leave employment, and they have also faced obstacles accessing finance, which limits and hinders their entrepreneurial potential, according to the recently published 2020 Georgia Gender Assessment. Ana Khutsishvili is one woman who has broken through gender barriers and managed to establish her own business by transforming her home into a guesthouse in Georgia’s ancient capital Mtskheta. Today, pandemic-related restrictions have brought the entire tourism sector to a standstill but, even with her guesthouse empty, Ana doesn’t plan on losing hope and continues to be active in her community encouraging women not to give up.
