Groundwater In Action: A Project in Zambia Gives Hope to the Chongwe Community

Groundwater is a vital source of water supply to manage the growing demand in Zambia due to extended droughts in the country. However, groundwater, often unmeasured and unmanaged, needs to be sustainably managed to maintain the levels of the water table. With support from the Cooperation in International Waters in Africa (CIWA), and partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), through its Groundwater Management Institute has initiated a pilot project in Zambia addressing the water shortage by providing groundwater to the Chongwe community. Special thanks to SADC-GMI for sharing their images on the project.
