Non-communicable diseases remain one of the key health challenges in Turkey, currently the major cause of premature death among the lower-income population. Promoting healthy living and addressing major risk factors such as smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, and alcohol use have become critical. The main goal of the Healthy Living Centers Program is to trigger sustained behavior change by creating opportunities to learn about actual healthy living practices. The centers were established in 2013 and 2014 in several provinces (Afyonkarahisar, Istanbul, Bitlis, Kayseri, Kirklareli, Kirikkale, Karabuk) and are operated by multi-disciplinary teams made up of physicians, dieticians, nurses, and midwives.
