How a 32-Year-Old Mother of Eight Started a Successful Solar Panel Business in Chad

Adouia Brema was married off at the age of 13. She hoped to be able to still attend school but eventually had to drop out to take care of her eight children. Today, at the age of 32, she has reinvented herself and started a career as an electrician, installing solar panels in her town in Mauritania. She is also training other women in her community so they can start working and supplement their families’ incomes. Adouia received this training through the World Bank-supported Sahel Women’s Empowerment and Demographic Dividend Project (SWEDD) which seeks to understand unmet market opportunities and provide women and girls with training in higher-income trades.
