In the last four decades, Bangladesh’s fertility rate declined from 6.3 to 2.3 births per woman and the prevalence rate of contraceptive users increased from 7 to 62.4% A high-level delegation from five Sahel countries, partners through the ambitious Sahel Women Empowerment and Demographic Dividend project (SWEDD) wanted to learn from this experience given the similar religious context and other shared development challenges, particularly around the potential role of women and delivering services in rural communities.
