Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki of Poland

WARSAW, April 11, 2022 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki of Poland.

President Malpass thanked Prime Minister Morawiecki for his hospitality at this difficult time and commended the people of Poland for their embrace of Ukrainian refugees displaced by the Russian invasion. President Malpass emphasized the WBG’s commitment to support Poland and other countries in the region as they deal with severe human and development setbacks.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Morawiecki discussed the impact of the war in Ukraine on the Polish economy and ways in which the World Bank can support Poland in its response to the refugee crisis through financing, technical assistance, and policy advice.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Morawiecki also spoke on the cost of the Polish government’s direct support for Ukrainians in Poland and internally displaced Ukrainians. President Malpass highlighted the WBG’s support for Ukraine, including providing fast disbursements to help the government deliver critical services for people, immediate working capital for companies supplying Ukraine, and financing for future reconstruction.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Morawiecki held good talks on the partnership between Poland and the World Bank Group and the innovative Clean Air Priority Program to support energy efficiency in single-family residential buildings.
