Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Sigrid Kaag, Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, The Netherlands

WASHINGTON, April 8 - Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Sigrid Kaag, Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, The Netherlands.

President Malpass thanked Deputy Prime Minister Kaag for The Netherlands’ leadership in providing a guarantee for the World Bank’s Financing of Recovery from Economic Emergency in Ukraine (FREE Ukraine) support package. President Malpass and Deputy Prime Minister Kaag discussed the war in Ukraine, noting its impact on refugees, food insecurity, prices, and poverty in fragile situations.

President Malpass and Deputy Prime Minister Kaag spoke on WBG efforts in countries affected by fragility, conflict, and violence (FCV). President Malpass expressed his gratitude for The Netherlands’ support for FCV challenges, including on issues pertaining to forced displacement and human rights.

President Malpass and Deputy Prime Minister Kaag also discussed much-needed progress on comprehensive debt solutions for low- and middle-income countries. President Malpass emphasized the WBG’s commitment to and progress on debt transparency, particularly around collateralized debt.

President Malpass was glad to share with Deputy Prime Minister Kaag more details regarding the WBG’s Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP), its work on Paris alignment, and ongoing project work with client countries to integrate their climate and development goals.
