DAKAR, March 21, 2022 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with President Mohamed Cheikh El Ghazouani of Mauritania.
President Malpass congratulated President El Ghazouani on Mauritania’s efforts toward responding to COVID-19 noting in particular the good progress with vaccination campaigns. President Malpass and President El Ghazouani discussed the importance of agriculture, quality education and electricity access for development.
Noting Mauritania’s stability, President Malpass and President El Ghazouani discussed the economic and social costs of increased insecurity in the Sahel region which is redirecting scarce budgetary resources toward security spending and away from social service delivery.
President Malpass and President El Ghazouani also discussed the World Bank’s Group portfolio in Mauritania. President Malpass reiterated the World Bank’s support for living standards of the people of Mauritania and the tripling of the WBG portfolio in the past three years and urged progress in project implementation.
