Updated World Bank statement on the Executive Director for Brazil*

The World Bank can confirm that Mr. Abraham Weintraub has been elected by the constituency representing Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Philippines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago to be an Executive Director on the Bank’s Board. Mr. Weintraub is expected to take up his position in the first week of August and will serve in the current term which ends October 31, 2020 when the position would open up again for election.

Executive Directors are not World Bank staff. They are either appointed or elected by the representatives of our shareholders.

Q: Was Mr. Weintraub confirmation unanimous?

To preserve the integrity of the ballot, voting tallies for constituency elections are not disclosed.  

Q: When does the ED term start? 

Mr. Weintraub is expected to take up his position as Executive Director in the first week of August. He will serve in the current term which ends October 31, 2020, when the position would open up again for election by a constituency of World Bank shareholder countries representing Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Philippines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
