THIMPU, May 17, 2025—The World Bank’s Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde,arrives in Bhutan today on her first official visit to Bhutan.

During her visit, she will have an audience with H.M. King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. She will also meet H.E. Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck, the Honorable Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, the Honorable Finance Minister Lyonpo Lekey Dorji, and other senior government officials, civil society, women entrepreneurs, and private sector leaders. She will be accompanied by Martin Raiser, World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region.

Bjerdewill also launch the World Bank Group’s new 4-year Country Partnership Framework for Bhutan. The World Bank and Bhutan have a partnership spanning over four decades in support of the country’s sustainable growth and development aspirations.
