The Republic of Tunisia will host the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) to be held in 2022. The Government of Japan announced on Thursday, 16 July 2020.

The Government of the Republic of Tunisia and the TICAD Co-organisers, UNOSAA, UNDP, African Union Commission (AUC), World Bank and the Government of Japan jointly express their strong commitment to the TICAD process towards building a prosperous and peaceful future for all the people of Africa.

  • The TICAD Co-organizers officially decided that the 8th meeting of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8) to be held in 2022 will be hosted by the Republic of Tunisia. This will be the second TICAD Summit-level meeting to take place in Africa since Kenya hosted TICAD 6 in Nairobi in August 2016.

  • Africa is the continent with the unlimited potentials of economic, social and human development undergoing significant transformation in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and Agenda 2030 of the United Nations. At the same time, Africa, like all other continents on the globe, is currently facing serious human security crisis due to the COVID-19 which threatens the entire spectrum of people’s lives; their survival, livelihood and dignity.

  • With its history of over a quarter of a century, TICAD is gaining further significance as an inclusive multilateral conference to address development issues in Africa, including in the area of health and private sector development. In light of the outcomes of TICAD 7 held in Yokohama in August 2019, the TICAD Co-organisers will continue to fully support Africa-led development towards TICAD 8 in close collaboration with the host country Tunisia.
