Send a Selfie with Bangladesh’s Key Development Priority Now

DHAKA, March 16, 2017: The World Bank Bangladesh today launched a social media competition titled ‘#ProsperBangladesh Selfie Contest2017’, to hear and firsthand experience your views on what will it take Bangladesh to become a middle income country by its 50th Birthday. The contest is open to all Bangladeshi Nationals and the residents of Bangladesh, and specially organized for the youth.

You, especially the youth, are vital to the country’s future and its prosperity,” said Qimiao Fan, Country Director for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. “Indeed you are the future of the country. Your thoughts and actions will play an important role in shaping the country. That’s why the World Bank is very excited to announce the development Selfie Contest and see what you think is the most important development priority for Bangladesh.”

Bangladesh has globally known for its success in reducing poverty, and human development against all the odds. In 2014, the country achieved low-middle income status, and now aims to become a middle-income country by 2021. What do you think are the key priorities for Bangladesh to become a middle-income country? Better roads or quality health care? Clean water or more jobs? Quality education or clean energy? Stronger local governments or robust private sector? All of the above? Something different? The World Bank wants to know your views.

Take a SELFIE with what you think is the country’s key development priority – and post it on www.facebook.com/worldbankbangladesh or email it to bangladeshinfo@worldbank.org. Answer the question: “What will it take for Bangladesh to become a middle-income country?” with #itwilltake and #ProsperBangladesh in the caption. Get creative and send us your submission (one entry per person) by Bangla New Year’s Day 1424 (April 14, 2017) midnight.

The winners and their selfies will be featured at the World Bank Website and social media channels, and receive other prizes. For more details, please visit the #ProsperBangladesh Selife Contest page on World Bank Bangladesh Facebook page.
