Statement by World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean on the Passing of Sir Dwight Venner, Former Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank

WASHINGTON, December 29, 2016 — World Bank Group Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean Jorge Familiar today released the following statement on the untimely passing of Sir Dwight Venner, former Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.

“On behalf of the many World Bank staff who recall Sir Dwight Venner with great respect and fondness, I would like to express our deepest sympathy to his family and to the people of the Eastern Caribbean.

Sir Dwight was a true champion of regional integration and played a leading role in the establishment of the OECS Economic Union. During his tenure as Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), our respective institutions have established a strong collaboration.

The Caribbean has lost one of its influential economists and thinker.

We mourn his loss.”
