World Bank Group President to visit Korea

SEOUL, November 28, 2013World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim will visit Korea from December 3 to 5, to open a new World Bank Group Office in Songdo and to discuss Korea’s growing role in global development and to promote investment opportunities for Korean companies in Africa.

"Korea is a great development success story which many African countries look to as a model. The new World Bank Group Office brings together the public and private sector sides of our operation, so we can help bring Korea’s experience to other developing countries to end extreme poverty and build shared prosperity,” said World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim.

The president will begin his trip in Seoul where he will give a speech on building cooperation between Korea and Africa. He will also visit a school to discuss the importance of developing skills including foreign languages. On December 4th, he will open the new World Bank Office in Songdo, and take part in the launch of the Green Climate Fund Secretariat. He will also go to Sungkyunkwan University for a seminar focused on education, competitiveness and innovation.  

Kim will also hold two press conferences, the first on December 3rd upon arrival in Seoul, and the second jointly with Korean counterparts at the office opening in Songdo on December 4th.

This is Kim’s second visit to Korea since becoming World Bank Group President in July last year.
