Open for Public Comments: Finalists’ Proposals for Grants on Social Accountability Initiatives

July 15, 2013

In February 2013, the Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) launched its first Call for Proposals on Social Accountability for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in 12 countries to win grants ranging from US$ 500,000 - US$ 1,000,000.

The Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) is a coalition of donors, governments and CSOs that aims to improve development results by supporting capacity building for enhanced citizen feedback and participation. To achieve this objective, the GPSA provides strategic and sustained support to CSOs’ social accountability initiatives aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability.

Applications from Tajikistan

A total of 216 CSOs from the 12 participating countries responded to the first Call for Proposals, out of which 11 applications were received from Tajikistan. The GPSA Steering Committee (SC) selected the proposal from Oxfam on “Improving Social Accountability in the Water Sector through the Development of Quality Standards and Citizen Participation in Monitoring” for $850,000 in funding under the GPSA grant program.

Please review the proposal and register and post your comments from July 12 to 18, 2013 at the submission page.

The GPSA takes all comments received into consideration before giving the final approval of the project.

The period for posting comments will end on July 18, 2013.

General information on the proposal, comments received from the Government, instructions guiding public comments and a space to leave comments are available at the link above.

GPSA’s first grants for social accountability projects

In Tajikistan, the GPSA sought Social Accountability proposals from CSOs that addressed the following areas:

  • Projects that seek improvements in the quality of public services, including education, health, access to electricity, water and other basic services for the population. Cooperation with local and national authorities is encouraged to ensure that the information produced is used by these relevant structures to improve the quality of services delivery in a sustainable way.
  • Projects that produce regular beneficiary feedback and data on the quality of public services. Projects should include an open and interactive database for use by the government and citizens.
  • Projects aimed at strengthening institutional capacity of civil society organizations working on social accountability projects in the country.
