IDA20 launched early amid a global crisis, one year ahead of schedule in July 2022 following the compressed IDA19 cycle. The international community wanted to act quickly and decisively to “build back better” after the COVID-19 pandemic had left lasting damage, causing the first rise in global poverty in a generation. IDA20 became the main tool to help IDA countries respond, recover losses, and regain momentum toward the 2030 development goals.
